If your child’s teeth have been accidentally damaged, call us now! We can even see your son or daughter after normal business hours. Just tell us what is happening, and we can set up the soonest appointment possible. We are known in the Loveland area for our dental trauma care.
Prepare for an Emergency Now
If you do not have an emergency at the moment, this is a perfect time to save our phone number. This way if an emergency ever does happen, you will be able to reach out to us quickly. We also recommend having our address and your child’s insurance card readily available to save time.
If you think your child may be experiencing a dental emergency, please contact Loveland Pediatric Dentistry immediately.
When to Visit the ER
We can’t treat every problem. If an injury has caused your child dizziness, vomiting, or unconsciousness, they likely needs the emergency room of a hospital.
One way to remember what type of office to go to is whether the problem is solely happening in the mouth or teeth, compared to if your child is experiencing symptoms that also affect other parts of the body—like the bones or whole face.
What Is Considered a Dental Emergency?
Any time your child is in pain, your first instinct is that it is an emergency. To better help you and your child know when to come in, you can call us and get a quick answer, or check what is typically considered a dental emergency compared to their overall health. Below are a few other common scenarios for you to think about so you are prepared for a dental emergency:
BITTEN OR CUT TONGUE, LIP, OR CHEEK
This can be painful! Call us for an appointment, so we can treat it soon. In the meantime, we can give you some tips over the phone on how to slow or even stop any bleeding while you and your child are on your way here. But if the bleeding will not stop, you should go to the ER.
BROKEN JAW
If an accident has broken a bone in your child’s jaw, you should take him or her to a hospital. A cold compress might reduce the swelling on the way there. After going to the hospital and being treated, we can help with correcting their smile or addressing any dental issues caused from this trauma.
CHIPPED TOOTH
Some injuries just break off a small part of a tooth. If you can find that broken piece, bring it with you to Loveland Pediatric Dentistry. After Dr. Capozza examines the tooth, she will give you options for us to treat it and restore it to healthy function.
Most people assume that a chipped tooth is a lost cause and that it is something you will have to deal with until their adult teeth grow in but our dental team is dedicated to restoring strength and appearance to your child’s smile.
KNOCKED-OUT TOOTH
Seeing your son’s or daughter’s tooth knocked out can be frightening. Call us quickly because it may be possible to save the tooth. We can walk you through the steps to save a baby tooth or adult tooth. The most important first action is to make the call.
SWELLING
If you notice that a part of your child’s face is swelling up, it could be an emergency, possibly caused by a dental infection. If the swelling is mostly in the gums and are inflamed then that could be a sign for gum disease either way, no need to let the swelling or discomfort continue, call us now.
TOOTHACHE
Tooth pain can come from a wide variety of sources. No one, especially children, like feeling tooth pain, it is up to Loveland Pediatric Dentistry to help solve the problem so your child is not experiencing unnecessary pain from waiting.
To start you might need to brush, floss, and rinse the tooth. Your child might need a children’s painkiller. But if the pain persists, we can examine the tooth to find the cause.
Ask Us Your Dental Emergency Questions
There are many more dental emergencies or issues that may feel like a dental problem but would be better handled by a hospital, so if your child has symptoms other than the ones listed above it is a good idea to give a quick call so we can one, let you know if it is an emergency and two, where you should go for care, and third, instruct you on steps to take on your way.
